Charming Chinese
I found a chinese charm laying on the groud the other day and I have no idea what it means!! HELP!?
On the left side it has what looks like two 3's one on the top and the other on the bottom, then on the right the top side is what looks like an f? its hard to explain and then the bottom half looks the same but upside down and then flipped....please help!
Hi Skittle, I am not a superstitious person, and I am not knowledgeable in Chinese charms. But after reading your descriptions (of the charm,) and giving the matter some thought, I began to suspect that this might be the word in the charm (see below):
發
If you can't see the Chinese character above, click on the link below. I did some quick work to turn the word into a graphics file, and immediately posted it at Flickr. If this is the word, then it basically means "to send out," "to issue forth (sprout,)" or "to develop." 發 (prounounced fā ) is also associated with auspicious meanings such as the ones below:
發財 (fā cái) to get rich
發福 (fā fú) to become rich, happy
If you have ever played Mahjong, then you should have seen this Chinese character already (but didn't pay too much attention.) There are four of these 發 tiles in a mahjong set, all of them words done in fitting green. Can you guess why the color green?
