Royal Embroidery
How do I wash a particular garment?
I have a garment that is all white with royal blue embroidery. It really needs to be laundered, and it would be easiest to machine wash it at home. The problem is that I'm scared the blue embroidery will fade and ruin the white garment. How can I machine wash this to prevent fading, but maximize the white color.
I took it to a dry cleaners already, add the lady told me that dry cleaning would not work very well, that she would prefer to send it out for laundry service. The problem there is that it takes a week, and I need it washed ASAP.
You don't say what the fabric is. That makes a difference!
I am assuming that the care label doesn't discuss the embroidery. If someone embroidered this garment for you, you might ask what they embroidered it with. Modern embroidery floss that you get at the store is usually colorfast, but if it's embroidered with special hand-dyed stuff then you could have a problem.
If you mostly just want to "freshen" the garment now, you might consider giving it a good spray with Lysol or Febreeze (avoiding the embroidered areas) so that you can wear it soon, and then have it sent out for laundry service afterwards.
Same goes if you're washing the garment to remove a spot. You could try dealing just with the spot for now and then have it sent out for laundry later.
If it really needs washing all over, Dryel probably will not be good enough. If it's a water-friendly fabric (like cotton), you could try hand-washing gently in cold water and Woolite. Good luck!
