Ethnic Cotton
Should we really celebrate Christopher Columbus?
When he accidently "discovered" hisponola on route to India, he was was on a quest for gold and spices. His arrogance towards the peaceful natives and his greed marks the beginning of a dark history of the ethnic cleansing of an entire population of natives.
"They... brought us parrots and balls of cotton and spears and many other things, which they exchanged for the glass beads and hawks' bells. They willingly traded everything they owned.... They were well-built, with good bodies and handsome features.... They do not bear arms, and do not know them, for I showed them a sword, they took it by the edge and cut themselves out of ignorance. They have no iron. Their spears are made of cane.... They would make fine servants.... With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want." -Christopher Columbus

Well he does have a holiday (today).
This question got annoying when the other half of the world was awake.
He did it on accident, but he did it. And he did realize his mistake when he got there and realized it wasn't India.
And most people don't celebrate him. They only glorify him.
EDIT:
Holidays are not always to celebrate, but also to remember.
